Sustainability Area - The Foodbank Singapore

The Food Bank Singapore Ltd. Is a registered charity and institution of a public character in Singapore. It operates as a foodbank that collects excess food from food suppliers and re-distributes them to organisations such as old folks’ homes, family service centres and soup kitchens.

What to donate: Staples, Condiments, Snacks, Canned food or Dried/ preserved food with at least 4 weeks of shelf life that are unopened and unused.

Where: Level 1 Sustainability area.

Sustainability Area- Alba

The E-waste recycling bin focuses on generating information for the general public on the issue of E-waste and to empower people to take action in the resolution of this problem. 20 to 50 million metric tons of e-waste are disposed worldwide every year. Cell phones and other electronic items contain high amounts of precious metals like gold or silver.

What to recycle: Most electrical and electronic items including laptops, mobile phones, chargers, cables, etc.

Where: Level 1 Sustainability area.

Sustainability Area- Cloop

Accept clothes, bags, shoes, accessories, belts, hats/caps, and household linens in any clean and dry condition (new/old). Working with ISO-accredited recycling partner to sorts materials into >500 categories for reuse, upcycle, and recycle internationally.

What to recycle: Most textile items such as clothes, bags, shoes, accessories, belts, hats/caps, and household linen.

Where: Level 1 Sustainability area.

Eco Umbrella Dryer

A sustainable way to dry wet umbrellas and help keep floor dry and safe on rainy days.

Recycling Bin

The walls at the lift lobbies (Basement 1 to Level 4) are used to share recycling knowledge.

Rewards

Compass One has always been making an effort to strive towards sustainability by consistently implementing energy-saving measures to reduce its energy consumption and has achieved BCA Green Mark Gold Award in 2016 and 2019, and BCA Green Mark GoldPlus Award in 2022.

  • The existing system has been reconfigured and upgraded with a higher-efficiency water-cooled chiller system, complemented by AHUs operating on EC fans. This optimized air-conditioning system ensures significantly reduced operational costs while maintaining superior performance. Additionally, the system incorporates energy-efficient Cooling towers, Pumps, VSD, and advanced thermal balancing technology, all of which are certified by the Singapore Green Building Council for sustainability and energy efficiency.
  • Majority of existing fluorescent lightings in common areas are replaced to LED lightings. In addition, motion sensors and lighting zoning works for carparks and utility rooms are implemented to further reduce the electricity used in the building.
  • Actively promote and educate the masses on recycling by providing recycling bins near lift lobby and engaging vendors for recycling waste such as E-waste and Food Waste.
  • Use of Singapore Green Label Scheme products like toilet paper, hand soap, and cleaning agents in the building.
  • Air handling units at Compass One are installed with UVGI to kill viral, bacterial, and fungal organisms to minimize airborne contaminants.
  • Tenants are encouraged to: –
    • use new eco-friendly, high energy, and low maintenance LED lamps to provide a reduction in energy consumption.
    • segregate their waste for efficient recycling purposes.
    • use environmentally friendly materials and/or chemicals such as low VOC paints, recycled or recyclable materials during the fit-out period.
